Privacy Policy

PathGlot ("we," "us") is a language-learning app. This policy explains what we collect, how we collect it, what we use it for, and your rights. Because the app's guide is an AI you talk to out loud, the section below on what leaves your device comes first.
AI: what leaves your device, and who receives it
Your guide is powered by AI models run by other companies. To make a quest work, we send them some of what happens in it. We ask for your permission inside the app before your first quest, and you can withdraw it at any time in Profile, under Privacy and data.

- What we never send them:your name, your email address, and your payment details. PathGlot never asks your device for your real-world location, so we have none to send.
- Equal protection:each of these companies handles the data as our service provider, on their paid business tiers, under API terms that allow them to use it only to return a result to us. They are not permitted to use it to train their own models, to sell it, or to pass it to anyone else for that party's own purposes, and we authorise no other use. The paid tiers are a deliberate choice: the free tiers of some of these services do allow training on what you send, and human review of it. Transfers out of the EEA or UK rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.
- How long they keep it:we do not store your microphone audio, and these providers process it to produce an answer rather than to build a profile of you. Providers may hold a request briefly for abuse monitoring under their own terms.
- Withdrawing:turn it off in Profile, under Privacy and data. Quests need it, so new ones will not start until you agree again. Withdrawing does not delete quests you have already done. Delete those by deleting your account.
What we collect
- Account info:email, name, and profile photo from Google or Apple sign-in, or from email/password registration. Collected when you create an account.
- Learning profile:target language, level, goals, and interests. Collected from the answers you give during onboarding, and from things you mention while talking to your guide.
- Progress data:XP, level, quest history, and session activity. Recorded by our servers as you play.
- Conversation transcripts:text of your practice sessions, stored in your account so you can review a quest and so we can grade it.
- Voice audio:captured by your microphone while a quest is running and streamed through our servers to the AI providers named above. PathGlot does not store this audio.
- Pictures of the map view:captured from the app when you ask the guide about something you can see. Not stored after the answer comes back.
- Usage data:session duration, feature interactions, and crash reports, collected by the app and our crash reporting provider.
Payments are handled by the App Store on iPhone and by our payment provider on the web. We never see or store your card details.
How we use it
- Run the app and personalise your quests and tutor
- Power the AI voice guide, by sending the data listed above to the providers named above
- Grade a finished quest and write your feedback
- Process subscriptions through our payment providers
- Send account and subscription emails
- Improve PathGlot using aggregate, anonymised analytics
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models, and neither may the providers we send it to.

Your rights
- Access:download a copy of your data anytime in Settings, Download my data, or email us.
- Correction:update your profile in app settings at any time.
- Deletion:delete your account and data via Settings → Delete Account, or email us.
- Personalization:turn interest based quests on or off anytime in Settings. You can object to this profiling whenever you like.
- AI processing:grant or withdraw your permission for the AI sharing described above at any time, in Profile, under Privacy and data. Your answer and the date you gave it are included in your data download.
- GDPR (EEA/UK):right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data. You may complain to your local supervisory authority.
- CCPA (California):right to know, delete, and opt out of sale (we don't sell data).
Other details
- Cookies:used only to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. No ad tracking.
- Children:PathGlot is not for users under 13 (16 in the EEA). We delete data from underage users on request.
- Security:data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our hosting provider.
- Retention:data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account deletion (except where law requires longer).
- International transfers:your data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States, by our AI and hosting providers. These providers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses to protect it.
- Changes:material changes will be emailed with 30 days' notice.
